I am so excited to be partnering with Maggie and Bill Iannuzzi of Precipice Coffee in Ellsworth, Maine to offer Scout + Bean coffee beans! I first happened upon their tiny shop on a trip up to Acadia National Park, and have been hooked ever since. Not only is their Bellwether roaster a zero-emissions machine, it is powered by the array of solar panels on the roof of their roastery, making them the most eco-conscious coffee roaster in the state of Maine.
This coffee is an organic Peru Churupampa. It’s a medium roast, single origin coffee with tasting notes of fudge chocolate, grilled pineapple, and sticky toffee.
From Precipice’s website: “Finca Churupampa is a very progressive coffee farm in Chirinos, Cajamarca, Peru. The Tocto brothers took over the farm’s operations from their parents several years ago and are transforming it into a model for economically and environmentally sustainable coffee production. In addition to selling coffee from their own farm, the Toctos provide export and marketing services for 215 neighboring farmers. Finca Churupampa has a training center that is open to the entire community, and works with farmers to improve their production practices to break a cycle of poverty that has entrapped farmers in the region for many years.”
